On March 20, 1992 the SUNSHINE AGENCY HOME HEALTH AIDE COMPETENCY AND EVALUATION PROGRAM was approved by the TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES-FACILITY LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION DIVISION. 

 

         The purpose of the SUNSHINE AGENCY AND EVALUATION PROGRAM is for upgrading the care of senior citizens and other disabled people in their homes, private care in hospital and nursing homes.

 

         The home health aide competency and evaluation program is directed by a qualified RN (registered nurse) in good standing with the state.

 

A certificate of recognition of the Home Health Competency and Evaluation Program will be awarded to those participants who pass the test.

1.

Communication skills.

2.

Observation of patient status and the care or services furnished.

3.

Reading and recording temperature, pulse and respiration.

4.

Basic infection control

5.

Basic elements of body functioning and changes in body function that must be reported to an aide's supervisor.

6.

Maintenance of a clean, safe and healthy environment

7.

Recognizing emergencies and knowledge of emergency procedures.

8.

The physical, emotional and development needs of and ways to work with populations served by the home health aide, including the need for respect for the patient, his or her privacy and his or her property.

9.

Appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming that includes: bed bath, sponge, tub or shower bath, shampoo, sink, tub or bed, nail and skin care, oral hygiene, toiletry and elimination.

10.

Safe transfers techniques and ambulation.

11.

Normal range of motion and positioning.

12.

Adequate nutrition and fluid intake.

13.

Any other task that the client/patient may chose to have the aide perform.

14.

Catheter and other instructions pertaining to catheter bags.

15.

Administering, supervising and documentation of medication.

16.

Rights of the elderly.

 

      The Home Health Aide Competency Evaluation Program established the competency and measures the qualifications of careproviders to attend patients who require hands-on-care in private home , private duty in hospitals and nursing homes.
